The Saalburg Roman fort
The Saalburg fort
lies along the Limes line.The Limes marked the frontier between Rome’s Empire and the Germanic tribal territories from early 200Ad and the next 150 years.
The garrison housed 600 soldiers. The fort and adjoining village is believed to have housed as many as 2000 people at one point.
Today the reconstructed fort together with the Limes, is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
